About Art-atelier

The Art-Atelier site launches

Art-Atelier was established in 2007 by former Royal College graduate, Hermione Carline to showcase the work of a group of contemporary artists; Andrea Ellis, Andy Preston, Hermione Carline, Madeleine Hunter and Phil Dobson. The majority of the group have been lifelong friends, and have collaborated together in a number of projects in the past.

Although formally trained in different creative disciplines - Phil in architecture, Andrea and Hermione in textiles, Madeleine in Theatre and Andy i Computer Science, they all now bring these earlier influences in to their current practices. This creates an exciting group dynamic in their shows, as the work does not necessarily fit in to a clearly defined category. The creative fields are blurred, reflecting each artist’s earlier experience.

For the 2010 Open house event, the work shows a strong connection between science and art; This may be informed by images created in the fields of science and technology, (Phil Dobson, Madeleine Hunter and Andy Preston). By the chemical process itself: ‘devoré’ which physically breaks down the makeup of the fabric creating the double-layered effect, (Andrea Ellis), The exploration of the effects of light and weather patterns in relation to memory, (Hermione Carline.)

For the 2011 Open House, Ingrid Lucas is also exhibiting with the group, and the title is Art Escape. The work is free, experiemental, joyful with a focus on colour and scale. Some of the work has a distinctly British feel in line with the 2012 Olympics, with Andy's Village Projects, and Andrea's Silk screen prints constructed of imagery of London.

The group now plans to show its work to a wider audience through future, new Art-Atelier curated, group and solo exhibitions, details of which can be found on the News page. Works can also be seen by appointment.
